I wanted to write an informative post for you guys to learn a little more about the importance of two of the most important factors in your engagement session:
time of day of the session and the wardrobe that you choose.
Time of Day:
Whenever I am scheduling a time, I always suggest scheduling the session either earlier in the morning (close to sunrise) or later in the evening (close to sunset.) The reason isn’t because I want to torture you by making you wake up and get ready at the crack of dawn, it’s because those times are when the light is the most beautiful. Those time frames are often referred to as “golden hour.” Magen and Trent were one of those lucky ones that had to wake up at the crack of dawn to get ready and be out the door to meet me around 7:00am. Torture, right?! But, just look at this light! The light is still low in the sky and isn’t straight overhead and super harsh. If I were to choose another time later that morning, the sun would’ve been higher in the sky and would’ve created harsh, unflattering shadows that are extremely hard to work with. I chose to place them in an area that was between myself and the sun so that their backs were toward the sun, which is known as backlighting. I love choosing to do this because I think it yields beautiful results!
The second key element to your engagement session is…
One of the first things that you are going to notice when you look at a photo is what the subject is wearing and how it works within the image. I tend to shoot images that show a result that looks well lit and natural and I encourage clients to wear outfits that go with that look. Magen and Trent’s outfits are the perfect example of choosing lighter clothing options that fit properly and look beautiful! If ever anyone is trying to decide on what to wear, I always say to dress up and don’t go too casual. While your engagement photos are waaaaaay more casual of a look than your wedding photos, you still want to look and feel your best! When you feel confident, it’ll show in the image and you’ll fall in love with the love that you feel in the photos!
I hope you enjoy Magen and Trent’s session:
